Dutch National Championship: Terpstra's Attack Rewarded with Victory
Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Niki Terpstra took a big gamble on Sunday, going solo for approximately 40km on Sunday in the Dutch National Road Championship, in very poor weather conditions.
His gamble paid off, as he was strong enough to hold on for his second national championship win in his career. He won by about two minutes.
"I'm happy about my performance," said Terpstra about his Dutch victory. "I have to say that I surprised myself. We were in a little group and I tried to accelerate to split the group and make it smaller but I remained alone. At that point I took the risk and I did a time trial. I like these kind of races with bad weather conditions. It's my second title, and the first win was great, but this one, with a solo ride. is even better!"
