Quick-Step Floors extend with Tim Declercq
The Belgian powerhouse has signed a contract that will see him stay with the team until the end of 2019.
Tim Declercq joined Quick-Step Floors at the beginning of the season, after five years at Pro Continental level, and it didn't take him too long to show his strength and bring his contribution to the team's victories in both Classics and stage races. His determination, desire to always push himself and the hard work laid down since January haven't gone unnoticed, landing him a new contract with the squad managed by Patrick Lefevere.
"When I was younger I used to dream about racing with Quick-Step Floors, so when Patrick contacted me last year and offered a contract it really was a dream come true. Extending my agreement for two more years feels amazing. The team is pleased with my work and I am very happy with my role here and with everybody around the team; you have that good feeling atmosphere where everybody knows each other, which makes you feel at home and generates success in one-day races and Grand Tours", said 28-year-old Tim.
Speaking of Grand Tours, the Belgian has just made his debut in one less than 24 hours ago, when he rolled down the ramp together with this teammates for the opening stage of the Vuelta a España, and to live such an experience for the first time in his career left him overwhelmed: "I can't tell you how happy I am to ride a three-week race. I was really looking forward to it ever since the team announced me, and to line out for a Grand Tour with Quick-Step Floors makes me really proud. The atmosphere on the first stage was really fantastic, we got off to a solid start and I hope this will augur well for the next weeks."
Patrick Lefevere expressed his satisfaction at having secured the Belgian for the next two seasons: "Since joining us, Tim has added power to our squad, especially in the northern classics, and proved he's a truly selfless team player, who works hard and relentlessly for his leaders. Considering all these points, but also the fact that we share the same values and mentality, it was logical to continue this partnership that worked so well this year beyond 2017."
