Quick-Step Floors Team to Grote Prijs Jef Scherens
A young team will take on the 51st edition of the Belgian one-day race.
Leuven – one of the largest cities in Belgium and home of the oldest university of the Low Countries – plays host every year to Grote Prijs Jef Scherens, a one-day race named in honour of the seven-time World Track Champion, the man who dominated the track sprints in the Interwar Period, building a remarkable palmares which included countless victories and several impressive records.
The race, 185.7 kilometers in length, consists of a 14.2km circuit which the peloton will cover 13 times; Keizersberg, Ludenscheidsingel, Wijnpers and Naamsev will be the main hurdles of this circuit, four hills that are very likely to split the bunch and force a selection from which the winner will emerge in the closing stages of the race.
Quick-Step Floors – who so far this season has amassed 41 UCI victories – will send a six-man team to the Belgian one-day event scheduled this Sunday, consisting of Laurens De Plus, Przemyslaw Kasperkiewicz (who'll make his debut as a stagiaire), Davide Martinelli, Pieter Serry, Martin Velits and Julien Vermote.
